More than 30 divers and sea lovers attended the “Marine Biology Day” at the dive school Die Tauchprofis on 6 September 2017. The programme included live microscopy of living corals and small creatures from Green Corals’ seawater aquariums (who has ever looked at the tentacles of a living coral – and at a magnification of 10 to 40 times?)

Each visitor was able to sit down at one of the five stereomicroscopes and freely examine the various prepared samples.

In between, there were two 40-minute presentations by marine biologist Stephan Moldzio:
* Marine Biology Weeks in Yap/Micronesia
* Reef Check courses and reef surveys in Egypt with a report on the coral reef crisis and the 3rd global coral bleaching event of 2014-2016.

Some snacks and drinks were also provided. It was a successful event which, for once, focused on the biological interrelationships in the ocean and the small creatures and plankton organisms. This is not only a fascinating microcosmic world, these tiny organisms are nothing less than the basis of the food web and therefore for all the sharks, whales, mantas and other “big fish” that are usually the focus of interest!
