Some impressions of our REEF CHECK reef monitoring programme at Red Sea Diving Safari in Marsa Nakari in May 2017.

As always – 2018 marks our 10th year – we conducted 5 Reef Check surveys, this time on the reefs of Marsa Shagra North & South, Sharm Abu Dabab, Shaab Nakari and Abu Nawas Garden. The latter two were added to our monitoring plan as new sites.

After successfully completing the five surveys, we moved on to the other two Red Sea Diving Safari villages, first to Marsa Nakari and finally to Wadi Lahami to explore the remote and unique reefs in the southern part of the Egyptian Red Sea.

Many thanks to Ahmed, Elke and Gottfried for their (repeated) participation and a big thank you to Red Sea Diving Safari for the perfect support – as always! 🙂

Another highlight of this year’s event: Dugong Special!

Our long-time friend, marine biologist, PADI MI and ranger/field researcher from Wadi El Gemal National Park, Dr Ahmed M. Shawky, organised a Dugong Special with a lecture and excursion exclusively for us! We were lucky enough to meet the resident dugong in Marsa Egla!

Take a look at the video of him calmly eating the delicious seaweed 🙂
