LPS stony corals

Based on the size of the polyps, a distinction is made between LPS (large polyped stony) and SPS (small polyped stony) corals.
There is often a blanket assumption that LPS corals are “hardier” than SPS corals.
But there are sensitive LPS species as well as very easy to care for SPS corals that have few demands on light, current or nutrient concentrations.
In general, LPS corals thrive in somewhat more nutrient-rich conditions and meet a greater proportion of their energy needs by capturing plankton.
